Shoulder and elbow surgeon training program in Boston

Comprehensive Training in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery

The New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship is dedicated to shoulder and elbow care and surgery. During the one-year experience, you are introduced to a broad range of shoulder pathologies and procedures — from arthroscopy to arthroplasty.

Our shoulder and elbow surgery fellowship program is approved by the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) society.

Program Details

The stipend is $82,000 per year, plus benefits.

To apply, you must meet these requirements:

  • Be board-eligible
  • Have experience in general orthopedics
  • Obtain a full Massachusetts license
What To Expect

Our faculty at New England Baptist Hospital performs a high volume of shoulder arthroplasty. During the program, you are exposed to the following:

  • Full spectrum of arthroscopic shoulder surgeries
  • More complex arthroscopic procedures such as:
    • AC joint reconstruction
    • Arthroscopic tendon transfers
    • Superior capsular reconstruction

Only 30% of cases are covered by the current sports medicine fellows. This alleviates concerns for cross-coverage and/or exposure issues. You will also gain experience with these and other elbow cases:

  • Arthroscopy
  • Reconstruction
  • Trauma
Research & Education

Our shoulder and elbow division has produced high-quality research in recent years. A robust clinic experience — one day each week — fosters a one-on-one mentorship and supplements the surgical experience.

We also provide a year-long, structured educational program, comprised of regular didactic lectures and cadaveric skills lab. All the staff are dedicated to educating fellows and residents. Several have been selected for yearly outstanding teaching awards by the fellows. After-hours responsibilities are minimal.
