Elite spine surgery training program in Boston
Comprehensive Training in Spinal Disorders
The Spine Fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) offers extensive experience to evaluate and manage adult spinal disorders. You’ll gain rich experience in all aspects of spine surgery. New England Baptist Hospital Spine experts performs more than 1,500 procedures per year to treat:
- Cervical spine disorders
- Adult deformities
- Lumbar degenerative disorders
Fellowship Details
Duration: One year — August 1 to July 31
Stipend: $82,000 per year, plus benefits
What To Expect
You’ll gain expertise in many facets of spinal surgery with an active operating room experience, including:
- Anterior and posterior cervical, thoracic and lumbar approaches.
- Microscopic, minimally invasive and open techniques.
- Exposure to image guidance systems, instrumentation, decompression and fusion procedures.
As a fellow, you’ll be exposed to a multidisciplinary approach. You’ll work with:
- Full-time orthopedic spine surgeons
- Neurosurgeons
- Neuroradiologists
- Physiatrists
Experience in the clinical office setting is an integral part of the program and essential for developing surgical decision-making skills. You also will be active in:
- Medical student and resident teaching
- Office clinics
- Weekly conferences
Research Project
With the support of an attending sponsor and the Orthopedic Research department, you’re expected to prepare at least one research project (clinical or basic science). The project must be suitable for presentation at a national meeting and publication in a peer-reviewed journal. You’ll present at least one Grand Rounds presentation for the Orthopedics department.
Spine Conferences and Lectures
You are instructed by an attending physician who presents a spine core curriculum of 30 lectures. Other conferences include:
- Bimonthly Spine Indications Conference
- Monthly Journal Club
- Monthly Morbidity & Mortality (M&M) Conference
- Weekly Orthopedic Grand Rounds
In addition to the spine didactic program, you’ll have access to all other orthopedic specialty teaching offerings within New England Baptist Hospital.
