Fellowship Eligibility

Our hand fellows are fully qualified orthopedic surgeons who have finished an orthopedic residency program and have a special interest in hand surgery. Through a competitive selection process, they come to New England Baptist Hospital from across the country for a year of intensive training in hand and upper extremity surgery.

Association with Tufts University

Our Hand Fellowship program is associated with Tufts University. It is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the Residency Review Committee (RRC). This fellowship is a combined program with the hand surgery staff at Tufts Medical Center. Two fellows are selected for the program each year. They rotate between New England Baptist Hospital and Tufts Medical Center on a regular basis.

What To Expect During Hand Surgery Training

The fellowship program includes didactic sessions by the clinical staff and fellows. You also can expect to evaluate and treat patients in the office and operating room under the supervision of clinical staff.

After successfully completing the fellowship program, certification by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) and subspecialty certification in hand surgery, you are eligible to apply for membership in the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH). The ASSH is the preeminent society for the care of the hand, wrist and elbow.
