Types of Research

Many doctors at New England Baptist Hospital take part in their own research projects. They also join studies with outside researchers. We participate in multiple types of research, including:

  • Clinical research. This type of research studies the effectiveness of emerging treatment options in people with specific health conditions. These treatment options may be a new medication or surgical procedure.
  • Patient-centered research. This type of research focuses on improving the patient’s experience in health care. Patient-centered research may be on topics such as patient-centered decision-making and patient-provider communication.
  • Translational research. This type of research focuses on moving research ideas from the laboratory into the clinic. Researchers seek to identify how research findings from the lab may be able to directly benefit people.

Next Frontier of Orthopedic Research

We have a strong foundation of research-driven innovation on which to build. Recent advances at New England Baptist Hospital include multi-modal pain therapy and early mobilization after joint surgery. New England Baptist Hospital researchers also have developed new protocols with shorter hospital stays that maintain excellent patient outcomes. We participate in the American Joint Replacement Registry.

Our researchers follow rigorous standards. These show our commitment to excellent patient care and research ethics. Our Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews, approves and oversees all of our projects.
