Empowering Patient Care Through Research Programs

Many staff members at New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) are actively involved with research projects. Our research program allows our healthcare providers to offer our patients the latest in effective, research-backed treatment options.

Infectious Disease Research Program

Research related to surgical infections has increased significantly in recent years at New England Baptist Hospital. These studies represent our hospital’s overall commitment to continually improving patient quality and safety.

Researchers have conducted infectious disease studies on a variety of topics, including:

  • Decreasing post-surgical infection rates
  • Methods to help limit unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions
  • Risk factors for specific infections
  • Surgical site infection (SSI) rates
  • Validating tests to help diagnose and treat infections more efficiently
Joint Replacement Research Program

New England Baptist Hospital is a center of excellence for musculoskeletal conditions. We have a world-class Joint Replacement Program. Our experts perform more joint replacement surgeries than any other hospital in New England.

From our earliest years, New England Baptist Hospital surgeons have been involved with developing new implants for joint replacements. We also are well known for our excellence in joint replacement revision surgeries. We are proud to maintain an impressively low post-surgical infection rate. This shows our commitment to surgical excellence and patient safety.

Nurse Research & Evidence-Based Practice

The Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Council consists of nurses from various roles at New England Baptist Hospital. The council seeks to:

  • Establish the process and disseminate current and available evidence in order to advance practice.
  • Promote the professional practice of nursing by applying nursing research.

Recent nurse-initiated research studies have focused on a variety of topics, such as improving patient care and current practices. As nurse-initiated research continues to grow, these researchers publish their findings and present them at local and national events.

Orthopedic Registry Program

The New England Baptist Hospital Registry provides valuable details that help providers make long-term decisions about orthopedic surgery. This includes patients who have undergone joint replacement.

Similar registry programs exist around the world to track the effectiveness of certain surgical procedures and implants. Tracking the patients’ perspective is a crucial piece to understanding how we can further ensure safety and improve the care we deliver at New England Baptist Hospital.

The New England Baptist Hospital Registry allows participating patients the chance to report their health status relating to:

  • Activity levels
  • Joint function and pain
  • Long-term surgical success
  • Quality of life
Spine Surgery & Physiatry Research Program

New England Baptist Hospital spine surgeons and physiatrists have conducted many key spine research projects on topics such as:

  • Cervical radiculopathy
  • Low back pain
  • Lumbar radiculopathy
  • Lumbar spinal stenosis

Our highly regarded Spine Center provides effective rehabilitation. We continue to improve our rehab offerings through research projects.

Sports Medicine Research Program

  • Joint injuries during athletic activities
  • Risk factors for sports-related injuries
