New England Baptist Hospital is proud to be a Center of Excellence for shoulder care. We offer a personalized, concierge level of care that’s not available at other centers. Our care team walks side-by-side with you, offering support and addressing any concerns that may arise throughout your care journey.

The shoulder is made up of two joints and three bones. The joints are the ball-and-socket (glenohumeral) joint and the acromioclavicular (AC) joint. The bones include:

• Upper arm bone (humerus)
• Shoulder blade (scapula)
• Collarbone (clavicle)

There also are several muscles, tendons and tissues that help your shoulder move properly. Rather than the bones, these are more commonly involved in shoulder problems.  

Getting a diagnosis for a shoulder problem takes a few steps. First, one of our highly qualified musculoskeletal experts will take your medical history and perform a physical exam. Our experts will test your range of motion and strength, as well as your muscle length. Depending on your injury or symptoms, you may need an X-ray or MRI.

When you come into our clinic for your visit, you’ll have plenty of time to talk with your specialist. We want you to become informed about your health condition and treatment options, so feel free to ask as many questions as you have.

Our shoulder care team spends time getting to know you, your health condition and your goals. We’ll create a customized treatment plan with recommendations that you’ll ultimately work out together to decide on a path forward.

Treatment for some shoulder problems can be straightforward. For some issues, you might need a more advanced option. We offer these and other treatments for shoulder problems:

Our team places a strong emphasis on education. We want to ensure that you, as the patient, understand your condition and treatment options available to you.

If you’re scheduled for shoulder replacement surgery, we invite you to attend one of our monthly pre-op classes for shoulder replacement patients. During this session, we provide you with details about before, during and after your shoulder replacement procedure.

After you’ve undergone treatment with us, we continue to follow up with you long-term. We want to ensure that you’re doing well and not having any further problems. 

Some patients come to us through primary care or other provider referrals. In many cases, a friend or family member refers a new patient to us.
