While every surgery is different, you should become informed on general guidelines and how the surgery day will run here at New England Baptist Hospital. Whether you’re preparing for joint replacement surgery, spine surgery or any other procedure, we’ve got you covered. New England Baptist Hospital has developed a series of detailed guides to help you prepare for surgery:
New England Baptist Hospital case management is a team of registered nurses and licensed social workers who can help you with important decisions that will impact your surgery and aftercare.

Once we schedule your surgery, you will also be informed about having a pre-admission screening appointment. Based on various factors, you will either schedule this with your primary care physician within 30 days of your scheduled surgery date, or it will be scheduled for you if you are required to come into the hospital for your pre-screening.
Your surgeon's office will provide you with additional information. The main goal of this pre-op appointment, regardless of where it is, is to ensure that you're healthy enough for surgery. During this time, a provider will perform a physical exam, review your health history and ask you questions. Get details on what to bring to your pre-admission screening appointment.
If your care team has told you that you’ll need to shower with special bacterial soap before surgery (called chlorhexidine wash), read these instructions in English or Spanish in the dropdown below.

That’s why, before your procedure, you’ll wash with a special cleanser called chlorhexidine. Please follow the instructions in this video to ensure that you use this cleanser correctly.
