Surgical care with advanced precision
When you have surgery, precision counts. And during complex operations, it’s even more crucial. By offering robotic surgery options, the surgical team at New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) offers you an extra level of precision.
Our surgeons are leaders in the field of robotic surgery. For example, we were the first hospital in Massachusetts to offer robotic spine surgery. To ensure you have the best possible result, we use the Mazor XTM Platform for image-based 3D planning of spine surgeries. We also offer MAKO SmartRobotics TM technology for total and partial knee replacements. This system allows for the most precise placement of implants and unmatched surgical accuracy.
Whenever possible, New England Baptist Hospital surgeons use minimally invasive robotic techniques to treat your condition. This helps you experience less pain and recover faster so you can get back to doing the things you love.
During robot-assisted surgery, your doctor makes small incisions at the treatment site. Tiny surgical instruments attached to a robotic arm are inserted into the incisions. Your doctor uses a robotic control panel to move the surgical tools in a careful, precise way.
At New England Baptist Hospital, we use robotic assistance in a wide variety of procedures:
You may have heard of robotic surgery, but you do not know much about it. Here are answers to commonly asked questions.
When you have robotic surgery, a highly trained surgeon performs your operation. Your doctor uses a surgical robot to help with the procedure. The surgeon is always in control of the robot.
The robot has surgical instruments and a camera, all attached to mechanical arms. Through tiny incisions, surgeons place the camera and instruments inside your body. We then control the arms from a computer console, where we have a magnified view of the surgical site. The robotic arms allow us to use special hand, wrist and finger movements. This provides precise access to areas of your inner body that are difficult to reach.
Robotic surgery uses tiny incisions. As a result, it’s a type of minimally invasive surgery. For you, this may mean:
