Helping you live independently

Regain Independence with Expert Therapy

Many health conditions and injuries limit your independence. They make it harder to perform basic activities, such as bathing, dressing or completing work-related tasks. Completing these tasks takes patience on your part and expertise on a therapist’s part. That's where we come in.

New England Baptist Health (NEBH) therapists provide occupational therapy (OT) in two care settings to meet your needs:

  • Inpatient occupational therapy (while you’re staying in the hospital)
  • Outpatient occupational therapy (in our clinic once you’re back home)

Occupational Therapy Goals

At New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH), our occupational therapy (OT) team offers treatments to help you regain your independence. We work closely with your primary care doctor to treat a range of conditions that affect your ability to perform daily tasks. We design an outpatient OT program that fits your needs, abilities and goals.

New England Baptist Hospital occupational therapists work with you to improve and restore your ability to engage in purposeful and meaningful activities of daily living. We focus on what you need, want and are expected to perform safely and with confidence. Depending on your situation, this may include:

  • Use of adaptive equipment for self-care routines
  • Functional mobility for bathroom transfers
  • Home management
  • Work-related tasks
  • Participating in hobbies you enjoy

In addition, our occupational therapists can work with you to minimize barriers that might limit your ability to participate in a full and active lifestyle where you live.

What To Expect

Our occupational therapists typically work with patients once or twice during their hospital stay, after they are up and moving safely. We work closely with your entire care team to create your individualized treatment plan. You may receive care from these and other members of the team:

The main goal of your OT treatment plan is to ensure that you’ll be safe when you return home. Many people meet their goals within a few days and are ready to discharge home. Others may go to a rehabilitation facility for further therapy before returning home.

Occupational therapists are available seven days a week, 365 days a year. We provide patient care using the latest evidence-based techniques in rehab practices
