New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) is a leader in orthopedic surgery and the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases and disorders. We offer inpatient and outpatient care from a variety of medical specialties and disciplines. While our primary specialty is orthopedics, we also provide care for many other health concerns.

Inpatient vs. Outpatient Care

Our specialists offer comprehensive care to you as a patient. We provide inpatient care for those currently admitted to the hospital. We also have outpatient care — which may include clinic visits, imaging and rehabilitation — when you need medical attention but don’t have to stay overnight in the hospital.

Cardiology

Our board-certified cardiac specialists offer a range of services for conditions that affect your heart. They provide a wide range of testing in our state-of-the-art diagnostic facility, including:

  • Echocardiography
  • Stress testing
  • Trans-esophageal echocardiograms

We also offer a world-class sports cardiology program to keep athletes safe and healthy. 

Gastroenterology

Our gastroenterologists diagnose and treat health conditions that affect the digestive system. These specialists are available for consultation during your hospital stay. They are experienced in caring for people with these and a variety of other disorders:

  • Crohn’s disease
  • Diverticular disease
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Peptic ulcer disease
  • Small bowel diseases:
    • Malabsorption syndrome
    • Malnutrition
  • Ulcerative colitis (UC)

Gastrointestinal (GI) doctors provide in-office consultations and perform many procedures, including:

  • Colonoscopy
  • Esophageal dilation
  • Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), also called upper endoscopy
  • Sigmoidoscopy
Infectious Disease

Our infectious disease specialists are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of infections, including these and others:

  • Complications related to a weakened immune system
  • Musculoskeletal infections
  • Pneumonia
  • Viral diseases, such as:
    • Hepatitis C
    • Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)

These specialists provide consultations to help prevent and treat infections. They also work with providers across New England Baptist Hospital to reduce post-surgical and hospital-acquired infections. These efforts help to improve patient quality and safety.

Nutrition

Our registered, licensed dietitians support people who are in the hospital with:

  • Dietary restrictions
  • Enteral and parenteral nutrition
  • Food allergies
  • Weight management
  • Wound healing

They also provide ongoing nutritional support on an outpatient basis for people with:

  • Gastrointestinal (GI) disease
  • Heart disease

  • Renal (kidney) disease

Surgery

New England Baptist Hospital offers inpatient and outpatient surgery. When possible, our surgeons use minimally invasive surgical care. This can help you return to your normal activities more quickly and safely.

Inpatient-Only Specialties

While you’re spending time as a patient at New England Baptist Hospital, a core team of healthcare professionals will care for you around the clock. Your team will likely include a:

  • Hospitalist doctor
  • Nurse practitioner or physician assistant
  • Case manager
  • Registered nurse

This core team supports and supervises your care from the time you enter the hospital until you leave. If your core team determines that you have a health issue that requires care from one of the specialty providers below, they will consult with that provider.

Behavioral Health

Behavioral health specialists care for your mental, emotional and psychological health.

Critical Care

New England Baptist Hospital offers a full-service intensive care unit (ICU). We admit patients to the ICU when they need a higher level of care. This may involve continuous monitoring after a complex surgical procedure. 

Dermatology

Dermatologists are doctors who care for problems with your skin.

Diabetes Care & Endocrinology

New England Baptist Hospital partners with Joslin Diabetes Center. These specialists provide consultative services for people with diabetes.

Nephrology (Kidney Care)

Nephrology specialists provide care for conditions related to the kidneys and urinary tract.

Pulmonology (Lung Care)

Our pulmonary specialists offer prevention, education, diagnostic and treatment services for adults with diseases of the lung.

Outpatient-Only Specialties

Our doctors offer these services on an outpatient basis, meaning that you can see the specialist at their office.

Our primary care physicians offer internal medicine expertise in a personalized, caring environment. New England Baptist Hospital is an intimate, private practice hospital. This means primary care doctors can communicate directly with you. They take the time to listen to your concerns and develop a trusting and understanding relationship.

Rheumatology

Our rheumatologists are experts in treating these and other related conditions:

  • Certain autoimmune diseases
  • Musculoskeletal pain disorders
  • Osteoporosis
