New England Baptist Hospital Names Dr. Hollenbeck as Department of Medicine Chair

BOSTON – New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) has named Brian Hollenbeck, MD, as the Frederick C. Basilico, MD, chair of the Department of Medicine. Hollenbeck also serves as NEBH’s chief medical officer and is chief of Infectious Disease. He has been with NEBH for 11 years.

Hollenbeck succeeds Fred Basilico, MD, who served as NEBH’s chair of the Department of Medicine for 26 years. The role will now be named in Basilico’s honor. Dr. Basilico will continue to see patients clinically and will continue his involvement as the cardiologist and internal medicine physician for the Boston Celtics.

“Brian has been a key member of the Baptist’s leadership team for several years, and his experience overseeing our medical staff makes him the right person to serve as chair,” said Katie Galbraith, MBA, FACHE, president, New England Baptist Hospital. “We are grateful to Dr. Basilico for his many years of service as chair. His leadership and commitment to excellence in patient care has been inspiring, and it is a great honor that the role will now be named in recognition of him.”

Hollenbeck earned his Medical Degree at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. After finishing his Internal Medicine Residency and Chief Residency at Brown University, he completed his fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He will continue in his role as Chief Medical Officer and as an Instructor of Medicine, part-time at Harvard Medical School.

“I am honored to serve New England Baptist Hospital in this new role and look forward to continuing to work with our outstanding medical staff,” said Hollenbeck. “Dr. Basilico has been an excellent leader for many years at NEBH. It is an honor to follow in his footsteps through this named Chair position. I look forward to advancing the Baptist’s mission as a top orthopedic hospital.”
