New England Baptist Hospital Awarded Shoulder Replacement Specialty Certification from The Joint Commission
Combined With The Hospital’s Advanced Spine and Advanced Total Knee-Total Hip Certifications, NEBH Is The Seventh Hospital In The Country To Receive The Triple Honor
Boston, MA – New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH) has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Shoulder Replacement Certification by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. The hospital also re-certified its Advanced Spine and Advanced Total Knee/Total Hip commendations.
“We are honored to receive this certification from The Joint Commission which reflects the deep commitment to extraordinary care our surgeons and clinical staff provide to our patients,” said David Passafaro, president, New England Baptist Hospital. “As only the seventh hospital in the country to receive specialty certification in all three categories of Spine, Shoulder Replacement, and Total Hip-Total Knee Replacement, we are very proud of the NEBH Team as they represent the best in the country.”
The certification recognizes health care organizations that provide clinical programs across the continuum of care for shoulder replacements. The certification evaluates how organizations use clinical outcomes and performance measures to identify opportunities to improve care and educate and prepare patients and their caregivers for discharge.
NEBH underwent a rigorous, onsite review in January. During the visit, a surgeon surveyor from The Joint Commission evaluated compliance with related certification standards including ensuring that the hospital programs were evidence-based, incorporated standardized processes, produced the best outcomes for patients, and emphasized a consistent approach to patient care and a culture of excellence. The Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The surveyor also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
“Shoulder Replacement Certification recognizes health care organizations committed to striving for excellence and fostering continuous improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing officer, The Joint Commission. “We commend New England Baptist Hospital for using The Joint Commission certification process to reduce variation in clinical processes and to strengthen its clinical program to drive safer, higher quality and more compassionate care for individuals served.”
NEBH leveraged a team approach to guarantee compliance with standards, guidelines, and improvement activities.
